Climate Change & Environment
Sustainable initiatives to protect biodiversity, promote forestation, and ensure food security.
Preserving Biodiversity
The tribal communities of Denkanikottai are the guardians of the forest. RDC supports their efforts to maintain the delicate ecological balance through sustainable practices and active conservation.
Our Initiatives
Tree Plantation (TAP)
In collaboration with the Forest Department, we organize large-scale tree planting drives to increase green cover and restore degraded forest lands. This also involves strengthening Village Forest Committees.
Kitchen Gardens
With support from HCL, we promote organic kitchen gardens in tribal households. This ensures nutritional security, reduces dependency on markets, and encourages the preservation and exchange of indigenous seeds.
Water & Sanitation
Training on water conservation and sanitation practices (supported by UNICEF and TWAD Board) to combat fluorosis and ensure access to clean drinking water.
Impact
- Bio-diversity: Protection of rare medicinal herbs and indigenous tree species.
- Food Security: Hundreds of families now consume fresh, organic vegetables from their own backyards.
- Seed Banks: Communities are reviving traditional rotational farming methods and preserving native seeds.
